Lesson Policies and Guidelines

  • Parent Resource Book (PRB): You will be emailed a digital PRB upon completion of the ISR Registration Process. This guide is full of useful information about what to bring to lessons, what to expect, as well as information about creating a safe aquatic environment for your family. Understanding the program is vital to your child’s performance. If you have any questions, I would be happy discuss them with you and to supply you with additional information.

  • Attire: In-water potty-accidents do happen and due to the fact that we cannot continue with any lesson if the sanitation of the pool has been compromised, ISR requires that each child, 3 years and younger, or any child who is not fully toilet trained be dressed in two layers of re-useable swim diapers. Once you have completed the ISR Registration Process, you will receive a coupon which can be used towards an approved swim diaper at the ISR Seal Store.

  • Towels: ISR requires 3 towels per child each day: The first towel is used as a germ-buffer on the pool deck. The second towel lays on top of the first and the child is placed on this towel once they are done with their lesson. The third towel is used to cover and dry the child. This policy is in place to prevent the transmission of bacteria from the pool deck. At the conclusion of the lesson, your child will be placed on his/her left side to allow for air release and to recover from the hard work that they just did. Please stay with your child while he or she rests.

  • Diet: Please do not give your child anything to eat or drink for at least 2 hours prior to lessons. No one works well on a full stomach, and your child will be working hard. It is important that you do not feed your child any APPLES OR APPLE PRODUCTS, pineapples, papayas, passion fruit, peaches, spinach, honey, or celery in any form for the entire duration of ISR lessons. These foods can cause the build up of gases in the abdomen leading your child to experience distention and discomfort. For further information on diet recommendations and requests during lessons, please reference the Parent Resource Book

  • Video/Photographs: Videotaping and pictures are only allowed on Friday, unless otherwise discussed with instructor.

  • Adverse Weather: Unless it is lightning, we will swim. Because of the sometimes volatile weather in Texas, I will try to have lessons, even if it means waiting a few minutes for a local storm to pass. You will be contacted by me if lessons are cancelled, so please make sure that I know the best way to contact you. Keep in mind that in Texas, it may be raining over you, but not necessarily over the pool area. If lessons are cancelled due to weather, a make up lesson will be offered.

  • Crying: Some children will cry their first few lessons. Because of their young age, most children are not able to express themselves through verbal language so crying is their way of communicating. Crying is your child's response to a new environment. As most parents can tell the difference between a distressed cry and a "fake" cry, ISR instructors are also trained to decipher between the two. Even though most students do cry during the first few lessons they still learn the necessary survival skills. Crying can be a good thing in the case where a child would fall into a body of water unnoticed. Their crying would alert anyone around that they are in the water and should be taken out. Please feel free to contact your instructor if you have any further questions regarding this.

  • Attendance Policy: Consistency is crucial to not only the learning process, but also to the retention of learned skills. Bringing your child every day will increase the rate of progress and retention of skills. Missing lessons may result in adding weeks to the lesson set. I am aware that your family's calendar is dynamic, therefore, please let me know as far in advance as possible if you know of lessons your child will be missing. I want to do everything I can to make sure your child's lesson experience is second to none. Please also keep in mind, lessons are not pro-rated and you will have to pay for all scheduled lessons.

  • Missed/Make-up Lessons: Make-up lessons will only be given if the instructor cancels lessons. If there is an extenuating circumstance, it will be considered on a case-by-case basis. It is your responsibility to schedule any weather make-up lessons. These lessons must be completed within the same calendar year as your initial lesson series. They cannot carry over to the next calendar year.

  • Illness: If your child must miss a lesson unexpectedly, please contact me by phone or e-mail. Should it result in an extended absence from lessons, please contact me such that arrangements can be made to hold or reschedule your child’s time slot. If your child misses lessons for 3 days or has any change in their registration information, lessons will be put on hold. You will be required by ISR to update your medical information for the Registration and Evaluation Team. They will then review the information and notify us when it is safe for lessons to resume.o ensure your child receives the safest, most effective lesson possible.

  • Schedule: I recommend arriving at the pool at least 10 minutes before your time slot in order to have your child ready for lessons at his/her scheduled time. Due to a very full lesson schedule, your lesson cannot be guaranteed if you are not on time. If it happens that you are late, of course, I will do my absolute best to fit you in, but again, it cannot be guaranteed.

  • Payment: A non-refundable deposit equal to one week of lessons is needed to secure your child's time spot. The cost of lessons is dependent upon your location and if the session is private, public or personal in-home. Please refer to the Locations tab for more information. Unfortunately, the fee for lessons cannot be pro-rated, as you are paying for a weekly time slot whether or not your child comes to lessons. Lesson payments are due at the beginning of each week. In order for your child to participate in lessons, payment must be received on or before the start of their Monday lesson each week. You may pay by cash, check or Venmo. Please make weekly checks payable to: Fort Worth Infant Swim. A non-refundable deposit equal to one week of lessons is needed to secure your child's time spot.
